Why volunteer? I haven’t been to Africa, I wanted to see it (the image of Africa). And it’s the cheapest way to see Africa. I was working for AIDS/HIV student organization as a volunteer (selling crafts of Kenyan HIV influenced people) in Japan but I never saw our patients.
Work experience. Part time jobs in restaurants and in a convenience store. At the moment I’m student at the Osaka University.
Duration. 4 months
Emotions after 2 months. First I just came to see how is Uganda and HIV influenced people. I have seen very many now, many struggling. Now I feel I want to help them even more. I have made many local friends. Many people want help, but I can’t help them always, because I’m going back – there is a conflict – I can’t be a volunteer forever. I like Uganda, people are very kind, though the temperature is too hot (and sometimes too much rain) and sometimes I miss Japanese food.J
Plans for the future. I want to be a teacher of history. In Japan they don’t want to teach negative things about our history and I would like the students to know about this. And I want to change the image of Africa in Japan.
About Beco: New Health Centre will be opened in January 2011, volunteers are needed for that.
