About KPSH Really nice place. People are very open and really welcoming. Children are happy. And they need help.
Why volunteer? There are so many reasons. I want to travel. I want to help people. I want to compare the social system of this country to my country. Gain work experience.
Work experience: Social worker, Rehabilitation centre, department of brain damaged children and youth
Plans for the future: Going home and looking for a job. And I want to travel more (in the far future).
Emotions after 5w I’m getting more used to Uganda, getting over the cultural shock and enjoying my stay more. Weekends can be boring and sometimes I feel home sick.

Recommendations for future volunteers: If you like children (especially handicapped people) KSPH is the place for you. You won’t get bored at work. It’s good to go through UPA – you get orientation, you meet other (international and local) volunteers – it’s a good way to start in Uganda.

About KSPH

School educates 120 children from 4 countries (Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania) with the help of 14 teachers and 20 other staff members.

Established in 1969, this is a very well-run and continuously developing school. In addition to academic education children are prepared for independent life. They are participating in practical agriculture (growing mushroom, cacao, etc), making leather crafts, cooking lessons, fabric dying and making ceramic necklaces.

KPSH has recently started with a transition program to help students continue with their lives after finishing school. KSPH has been able to find work for several graduates in Ugandan companies.

KPSH hosts annually many international volunteers and inters from local universities. KPSH treats all volunteers as staff members, giving them very warm welcome, inviting them to workshops, staff meetings, parties etc.

Volunteers needed!

New volunteers are needed when the school starts again in February 2011. Apply now or ask for more information Uganda_pioneers22@hotmail.com. See also the profiles of other medium and long-term volunteers here.
