Duration: 1,5 months
Working time: Mon – Fri 8.30-16
Accommodation: Home stay (25m from the school). No electricity, no running water.
Tasks: Teaching English and Math
About school: School is in desperate need of teachers. The school has currently ca 200 children and only 4 teachers – there is not a teacher for every class and the children’s knowledge of English is very poor. The school was built with the help of volunteers, UPA and local community. It focuses on schooling the poorest of the nearby villages who would otherwise miss schooling.
Location: In very rural setting, 70 km (2hrs, $2,5) from Kampala. 20 min walk to the closest village centre with small shops. If you wish, during school holidays (and weekends) you can stay at the UPA Guesthouse and use it as a base to make trips to other parts of Uganda.
Teachers needed: There is an urgent need for teachers when the school starts in February 2011. If you have good attitude, no previous experience is needed. Cost is $500 for 3 months (and $60/month after that), including accommodation, 2-day orientation in Kampala and airport pick-up. Host family is expecting a extra fee of $15/month for 3 simple meals a day.
