The UPA Guesthouse is located in Nansana village, just outside of Kampala. Ideally, the center of Kampala can be reached by matatu (taxi) in 45 minutes. But due to traffic jams, at times it might take you over an hour to reach Kampala.
Our cosy guesthouse can host up to 13 volunteers at any time, but the actual number can vary considerably. The volunteers who stay with host families are also allowed to visit the guesthouse. At the guesthouse you will find a kitchen with a gas cooker, a bathroom with toilet and (cold) shower, outside toilets, a covered and an open patio where you can do your laundry and dry your clothes, and a living room. Next to the guesthouse you will find the UPA office and the Pioneer Youth Association (PYC).
Nansana village is a quiet and nice place to stay, and all your basic needs can be found close the guesthouse. Foods and drinks can be bought at the small shops and with the many street vendors you will find in the vicinity of the guesthouse. An internet cafe is located at 2 minutes walking, and there are some small restaurants/take-aways around. For the ones that fancy a shake, there is a local disco nearby, which has been very much appreciated by some of our previous volunteers.
